House Rules
Self Defence is a party game for friends who already know each other. It works because everyone in the room is in on the joke. The rules below exist to keep it that way. Breaking them is grounds for suspension.
1. Friends only
Only invite people you actually know and who've agreed to play. Room codes are private. Do not share them in public spaces, on social media, or with people who haven't given consent to participate. The Service is not a tool for ranking, exposing, or roasting strangers.
2. Consent at every step
Players accept the House Rules before joining a room. If anyone in the room asks to stop, drop the spice tier, or skip a round — do it. The game is supposed to be fun for everyone, not just the loud majority.
3. No targeting protected groups
Questions, forfeits, and player-written content must never target race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, immigration status, or any other protected characteristic. Our AI filters block this; humans must not work around them.
4. No real-world tragedy
No jokes about specific real victims, ongoing crises, war, mass violence, abuse, or anyone's death. The line is the line.
5. Nothing sexual involving minors. Ever.
Any sexualised content involving anyone under 18, real or fictional, is permanently and immediately banned. We will report violations to the appropriate authorities.
6. Forfeits are playful dares, kept safe
Forfeits must be doable safely from the loser's phone or voice. They are equivalent to Truth-or-Dare prompts. They must not:
- Cause physical harm.
- Require illegal activity.
- Demand the loser contact a specific real person to harass, deceive, or hurt them.
- Involve revealing genuinely sensitive personal information.
- Be sexual, explicit, or coercive in any way involving real people who haven't consented.
Anyone can refuse a forfeit, no questions asked. If a forfeit feels off, skip it.
7. Spice tiers
- Mild — family-friendly. Light teasing only.
- Spicy — PG-13 party energy. Cheeky and provocative, the default.
- Unhinged — R-rated party energy. Requires a separate confirmation from the host before it can be selected, and every player must be on board.
8. No platform abuse
Don't scrape the Service, automate accounts, abuse the AI endpoint, or attempt to extract other rooms' data. Don't impersonate us or use our branding without permission.
9. Reporting
Saw something that violates these rules? Email help@selfdefence.app with the room code (if you have it) and what happened. We take reports seriously and will act on verified violations within a reasonable time.
10. Consequences
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account, end any active room, refuse refunds for terminated accounts, and report illegal activity to the appropriate authorities. We'd rather not have to. Don't make us.
